Horace Kirkpatrick Harkey Jr's Obituary
Loving father and devoted husband, Horace Kirkpatrick Harkey Jr. was born on October 25, 1953 to Horace and Jewel Harkey in Fort Worth, Texas, and went home to rest in the precious arms of Jesus on June 25, 2021.
Horace attended I.M. Terrell High School and went on to North Texas State University where his major study was Art and Photography. He pledged the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in the Fall of 1972. Also during his college years, he met and married the love of his life for 46 years, Karen Kizzee Harkey. Horace and Karen have two wonderful sons, Jason and Justin.
As a creative graphic artist, during late 1976, Horace owned Graphic Impressions, a full service marketing design and screen printing business. After many years as an entrepreneur, Horace decided to embrace a corporate career. He served as District Manager for the Eckerd’s Corporation’s photography stores. Horace moved on after his retail experience, to secure a Senior level career with IBM. At IBM, Horace received many accolades for his expertise in business solutions, services, products and technologies. He retired from IBM accomplishing awarded success. During his retired years, Horace served as Board President of the educational non-profit organization known as Choices Leadership Incorporated. He volunteered his professional experience and philanthropy to help build lifelong learning skills for first generation college bound students, as well as disadvantaged youth from the community at large. He was a strong man with a quiet voice, who touched many with his commitment to leadership and service.
Horace and his family have been members of the Hamilton Park United Methodist Church for 36 years, committing their faith since 1986. Horace Kirkpatrick Harkey is preceded in death by, his mother, Jewell Williams Harkey, father, Horace Kirkpatrick Harkey Sr., sister Laura Michelle Harkey and half-brother twins, Harry and Larry Harkey
Horace leaves a lifetime of precious memories to be cherished by his wife, Karen Kizzee Harkey, sons, Jason Kirkpatrick Harkey and Justin Karl Harkey, granddaughter, Robyn Monet Harkey, nephew, Malcolm McCarty and a host of endearing friends
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 11:00am at Royal Lane Baptist Church, 6707 Royal Lane, Dallas, Texas, 75230. There will be an one hour viewing prior to the start of the service.
