Howard was a good man that I was glad to meet him. Love his laughs and smiles, too. May God take a care of him.
Howard Costello was the brother of my mother-in-law, Charlotte Thurston. During our family trips back to Texas to visit our relatives (who were spread out from Amarillo to Midland) we'd often fly into Dallas and meet up with Howard and Kathy. When my husband Howard's (whom Howard Costello would refer to as Howard the Younger) father died in 1993, and his mother died in 1996, Howard and Kathy came to Midland to join the family at the funeral. Most of our visits were far too short and far between. I remember lunch at Dennys as a huge storm brewed outside, a visit at a high table at an airport motel cafe and a visit to their home. One of the most touching moments occurred when our son was around 8. He was sick with a stomach flu and stayed in the motel room while we met with Howard and Kathy. After our visit, Howard (the Elder) was clear that he wasn't going to leave without giving Paul a hug, unconcerned that he might get sick too. Our longest visit was after the funeral of his sister, Charlotte Thurston. We all gathered in her apartment–brother, sons, daughter-in-law and teen grandchildren. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit as we began the process of dividing up Charlotte and her deceased husband's things. Dining tables, chairs and dresses flowed freely, open-heartedly— any disagreements that Charlotte had nursed during her life disappeared in the family she left behind. It was one of those moments in my life that shimmered with grace. I'll always remember Howard and Kathy's smile, the warmth between them, and their openness to us–family who lived so far away. I loved our holiday phone calls, but wished that we made it back to Texas more often after the death of Howard's (the younger) parents. We so wanted to be there for the funeral, but that wasn't possible. But we are there in spirit. Love to Kathy, Lisa, Taylor and all of the family Nancy and Howard Thurston

Taylor and I will miss that beautiful smile everyday, but know that you're in a better place…The house feels so empty without you, but your spirit and presence will never be gone!!! To the best dad/grandpa & bestfriend any two girls could ask for
Howard will be missed by many. I will remember his smile and the twinkle in his eyes when he was surrounded by family.
Kathy, I am so sorry for the loss of Howard. He was a wonderful man with a gentle spirit. I'll miss seeing him at DAD.
