Mr. Howard H. Gohl's Obituary
GOHL, HOWARD H., 83, of Richardson, Texas, died peacefully at Mountainside Assisted Living Home in Fountain Hills, Arizona on Friday, January 30, 2009. Howard was born June 3, 1925, in Danville, IL and graduated from Danville High School in 1943. Part of the “Greatest Generation,” he bravely and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from August 1943 to April 1946 in the American and Asiatic Pacific Campaigns. Howard’s sea duty was aboard the USS Topeka (CL-67) for her shakedown cruise in the West Indies in 1944, then as she joined the Pacific Fleet as the flagship of Cruiser Division 18 – Task Force 38 – 3rd Fleet under the command of Admiral William Halsey until October 1945. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Illinois in Accounting, Secondary Education and Economics in 1950. Howard retired in 1988 after 30 years of service as a dedicated employee of Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. A member, acolyte, and usher at Messiah Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas his faith in Jesus Christ and his duty to God and Country was his strength. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Glenna Gohl, Jim and Donna Gohl and Rich and Kathy Gohl; a granddaughter, Allison Gohl; two grandsons, Matt Gohl and Kasdan Gohl; and his twin brother Harold Gohl. Funeral services and interment will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Victor J. Kollmann at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 11:00 am. A visitation will also be at Restland from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, February 6, 2009. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Howard Gohl to Messiah Lutheran Church (972) 398-7500.
