Howard Kenneth McMichael's Obituary
MCMICHAEL, HOWARD K. (Mike) Born December 1, 1928 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and passed away March 19, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. Preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Florence McMichael; and sister, Mary Lou Startzell. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Helen McMichael; children, Marilee McMichael, Cindy Hope and husband Kyle, Patty Cheatwood and husband Charlie; grandchildren, Erin Hope, Ryan Hope, Alicia Cheatwood, Dawn Marie Paul and husband Sean; great grandchildren, Spencer Paul and Zachary Paul; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Mike graduated from Penn State with a degree in Civil Engineering. After his time in the army he was employed with Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff until the time of his retirement. As a Civil Engineer he designed highways and interchanges. When moving to Dallas he was a part of the team that designed the first phase of the Dallas North Tollway. Mike and Helen traveled many miles, visiting all fifty states. More trips were made to New England than any other area as spending time on New Hampshire shores was his favorite. His other favorite past time was to spend fishing. After retirement he and Helen moved to their Lake Cypress Springs home where he caught his share of fish and made great friends. Mike had some very special friends in Dallas that he and Helen shared many years and memories. They were like family. Mike took great pride in his three daughters and their accomplishments. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed keeping up with their activities. He put up a real fight to overcome many illnesses and now – his last Highway – to Heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to either First United Methodist Church, 601 S. Greenville Ave., Allen, TX 75002, First United Methodist Church, 522 Hwy 37S, Mt. Vernon, TX 75457, or MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
