Howell (Hal) Erwin Davenport's Obituary
Howell ‘Hal’ Erwin Davenport passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2019 at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife, Judy Ring, of 72 years and his daughter, Debra Fraker.Hal was born in Dallas, Texas on April 5, 1923 to Milton and Maurine Davenport. He attended AdamsonHigh School in Oak Cliff and after graduation went to work for Magnolia Oil Company. After the start of World War II, Hal enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he served his country for four years. While stationed in Greensboro, North Carolina, Hal met Judy, the love of his life and they married on April 6,1947 in Dallas. After the military and returning to Dallas, Hal went back to work for Mobil Oil Company (formerly Magnolia), where he worked as an accounting supervisor until he retired 42 years later. Soon after retirement, Hal was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent extensive surgeries and a long recuperation. During this time, he vowed that, if he survived, he would do volunteer work and help others in the way he was helped by so many while he spent those weeks in the recovery. That started Hal on the last and most satisfying chapter of his life – doing volunteer work for over thirty years. He worked for thirty years at Doctor’s Hospital, twenty years at Ladies of Charity, and off and on with Volunteers in Patrol and at Doctor’s Nursing Center.Hal was a devoted and hard-working husband and a fun father and was the only one in the neighborhood who regularly played games with all the kids on the block. He was quick to smile and had a great sense of humor. Hal also loved taking road trips, spending time with his neighbors and fellow work and volunteer friends. And yes, Hal also loved mowing the yard. Hal was a strong believer and lover of the Lord. He loved listening to hymns and to God’s word and was a regular attender of Redeemer Bible Church.A Celebration of Hal’s Life will commence at 12:30PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, Hal’s family requests memorial contributions in his memory be designated to Redeemer Bible Church 721 Easton Road Dallas, Texas 75218.Memorial gifts can be offered online at https://www.redeemerbiblechurch.org/give/
