Hoxie Pierre Scott Jr.'s Obituary
Our Lord called H. P. Scott Jr. home on November 2, 2023, after 86 years. His body battled itself for a decade; his soul knew his rest was in the peace of the Lord. A Texas native he transitioned gently at his Florida home with family at his side.
Through the years people knew him as Pete, Pierre, Scotty, and H.P. He allowed only a select few to address him as Hoxie.
Scotty was born in San Antonio in 1937, lived his early life in Buda, El Paso and Austin, graduating from McCallum High School in 1955. That year he joined the Air Force and embarked on a 50 year marriage with his high school sweetheart, Anita Jo Cargill. God called Anita to heaven in 2006.
H. P. is survived by their daughters Belinda Kay Scott, Sherry Lynn Scott, granddaughter Breanne Lee Mailloux, grandson Scott Edward Mailloux and his wife Pamela Amore Mailloux, and great grandsons Broden Scott Mailloux, Tyler Richard Mailloux, and Nicholas Rane Mailloux, Kay Lea Hoeft whom he married in 2007, her son Dru Hoeft, and grandchildren, Emma and Kayleb Hoeft.
After teaching electronics, radar and microwave communications in the Air Force, telecommunications became his lifelong career. Starting as a bench tech with Collins Radio, he became a tower climbing field engineer. He developed lifelong friendships in the industry while turning up microwave systems. Cutting edge technologies brought career opportunities with MACOM and MCI. Through sales and supervising system construction with Collins in the Far East Scotty gained experience he used to lead MCI’s Engineering and Construction Division. A Collins career highlight was working with the Apollo 8 mission. In 1996 he retired from MCI as president of WUATS.
H. P.’s life was not all work and no play. He loved traveling. Archery, guns, hunting, motorcycles, boating, golf, the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys filled his playground.
Whether his friends, family or co-workers knew him as H. P., Hoxie, Pete, Pierre or Scotty, they will remember the fun loving, generous, caring, hardworking, adventurous man he was through the stories of the time they were blessed to spend with him. He will be remembered for his integrity and loyalty.
To quote one of those friends, “he was a good and loyal friend to so many of us and we all treasured the time we had with him. ‘Scotty stories’ are legendary. He made us all smile. He helped me when most all others disappeared.”
Sherry shared her dad will be remembered by anyone who ever met him. He was admired for his strength, intelligence, caring and loving personality. His advice was truly genuine and well respected. You knew he had your back and always provided his shoulder to cry on. “He said many times in his last days how proud he was of his girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren, touching our hearts. Life lessons came from many conversations. My dad was my strength, my hero, and I am unable to describe the loss I feel.”
A service to celebrate the life of H.P. Scott will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 18 at Restland Memorial Chapel in Dallas, Texas. A reception will follow the service. There will be an opportunity to express condolences to the family from 5 to 7 p.m. November 17.
