Dr. Hsu-Mei Cheng's Obituary
Dr. Hsu-Mei Cheng passed away peacefully on October 29, 2014 at the age of 99. Dr. Hsu-Mei Cheng was born on February 5, 1915 in Dajia District, Taichung, Taiwan. Dr Cheng is survived by daughter, Kuei-Ju Huang (Taipei Taiwan); son, Shih- Chuan Cheng (Hsin-Chu, Taiwan); daughter, Gloria Wang (Danville, California); son, Hsin-Chuan Cheng (Cincinnati, Ohio); son, Andrew Cheng (Plano, Texas); 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Dr. Cheng went to medical school in Japan prior to World War II. During her medical school and residency training, she gave birth to her first four children while still excelling academically. She then served as a pediatrician in Taiwan and, together with her husband, left a legacy of scholarly activity and community service. After retiring, Dr. Cheng moved to Dallas with her husband in 1985 to live with her youngest son and to help care for her grandchildren (Emily, Steven, and Jessica Cheng). Regardless of her age or circumstances, Dr. Cheng always seemed to exhibit a sense of grace, beauty, and tenacity. In her later years, she enjoyed singing, reading the newspaper, playing bingo, making crafts, and playing with her great-grandchildren. She is loved by many and will be greatly missed. The visitation for Hsu-Mei will be from 5:30 to 8:30 PM on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. The memorial service for Hsu-Mei will be held in The Memorial Chapel at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service for Hsu-Mei will be open to the public, and flowers may be sent to Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238.
