Hubert Lee Burgess Jr.'s Obituary
BURGESS, HUBERT LEE JR., passed away at home in Dallas on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at age 87 from Melanoma. He was born to Hubert Sr. and Bertha Burgess in Lubbock, Texas. After Naval service in the Pacific and in WWII, he graduated from Texas Tech University then moved to Dallas in 1949 where he established and operated the Varsity Book Store until retiring at age 72. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid tennis player, snow skier and hiker. A devoted husband, Hubert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jo Anne; brother, Jimmy; children, David, Lynn and Chuck; granddaughter, Teresa; nephew and nieces. An entombment ceremony will be held at 2:15 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in the Abbey Mausoleum at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas and will be followed by a memorial service in the Abbey Chapel at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charities.
