Hugh Wayne Gifford II's Obituary
Hugh Wayne Gifford II February 25, 1972 – July 10, 2025
Hugh W. Gifford II, age 53, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on July 10, 2025. Born on February 25, 1972, in Houston, Texas, Hugh was a generous soul with a Texas-sized heart and a deep love for his family.
Hugh grew up in Dallas and attended Lake Highlands High School before graduating from the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen. He earned an associate’s degree in computer-aided design from The Art Institute of Dallas. Hugh began his career with Freeman Decorating, then joined his father in the family’s oil and gas business. Later, as an independent consultant, he prioritized what mattered most—being a devoted and present father.
His children—Libby Faye, Gradon Louis, and Hugh W. Gifford III (“Trip”)—were the center of his world and greatest joy. He was deeply involved in their lives and their church community at Zion Lutheran.
His spiritual journey was a meaningful part of his life. Baptized in 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, his relationship with God brought him peace and purpose, and he strived to walk humbly in service to others.
Hugh was known for his gentle spirit, charismatic rapport, and ability to form deep, lasting friendships. He brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. His friends were like family, and his loyalty, humor, and caring nature left an indelible mark on each of them.
A lifelong sports fan, Hugh shared a special bond with his dad over their love of baseball—especially the St. Louis Cardinals. An avid golfer, Hugh enjoyed the game from high school through adulthood, often playing with his nephews and, more recently, introducing the game to his son Gradon.
Hugh was preceded in death by his father, H. Wayne Gifford. In addition to his children, he is survived by his loving mother, Myrtle M. Gifford; his devoted sisters, Machelle Selbe and her husband Dennis, and Anna Greathouse and her husband Chris; and the mother of his children and faithful co-parent, Amanda (Mandy) Gifford. He also leaves behind his cherished nephews—Jacob, Mitchell, and Grant Greathouse—who deeply admired and loved their “Uncle Hugh.”
A memorial service will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel on July 31, 2025.

As we reflect on Hugh’s journey of faith, we are comforted by the words of Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
Hugh’s legacy of love, faith, friendship, and devotion to his family and community will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
