Huong Van Phung's Obituary
Huong Van Phung, age 67, of Dallas, Texas passed away on December 22, 2020. He was born on December 1, 1953, to Phung Van Phe & Nguyen Thi in Phan Thiet, Vietnam. He was from a family with 13 siblings, brothers, and sisters, and often known as brother 8, uncle 8, great uncle 8.
Back home, Huong's Dad, Mother, and family were landowners and owned many different businesses. His family was admired for always giving back to their community. Despite being born into a privileged and wealthy family, his life was marked by many tragedies due to wars and the political turmoil of the time. In Vietnam he worked as a mechanic for a boating company, that was responsible for helping people flee Vietnam after the war. One particular day in 1977 he was boarded against his will and forced to leave his family behind. Huong was appointed as the on-board mechanic in the event that the boat failed after docking. This boat landed him in the Philippines where he spent a few years in a refugee camp.
Huong managed to find his way to America in 1980. Speaking little English and having next to nothing, he worked hard and purchased his first home and raised three boys. After many years of hard work, he was considered as a Master Mechanic, and opened his own auto repair business in 1993; respectfully serving his local community for 25+ years.
Huong was a simple man who loved his family very much and only wanted the best for them - even if that meant working long days/hours and never taking vacation. Huong enjoyed watching classic movies; ones that featured the likes of John Wayne, Bruce Lee, and Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky/Rambo Sagas. He also enjoyed collecting rare coins of different currencies. He was a loving brother, father, and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by his family, children, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Hai Tien Phung and his wife, Yasmin Phung, Trung Tien Phung and his wife Mimi Phung, Son Tien Phung and his wife Christina Phung; and his grandchildren, Henry Tien Phung, Devin Tien Phung, Amelia Mae Phung, Niana Arma Phung, and James Tien Phung.
