Hyang Sop "Hanna" Kim's Obituary
Hyang Sop (Hanna) Kim went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2026, at the age of 100. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kim, two children (son and daughter), and her grandson, Abraham Kim.
Hanna was born on March 29, 1925, in Haeju, North Korea. Tragically, she lost her father at a young age during her elementary school years. Hanna pursued higher education and became a teacher until she married.
She married her husband Hang Sup (Jim) Kim on October 18, 1945. Due to the Korean war, she and Jim fled to South Korea with her oldest son (Moody Kim). Her mother stayed in North Korea thinking that they would be reunited soon. That day unfortunately never came and they never saw each other again.
She and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1978 following her eldest son Moody Kim, and then all her other children followed and settled in Texas.
Hanna was very active in her church (New Song Church) until she transitioned to a long term nursing home in September 2023 as her health needs required more support. She remained there until her passing at the hospital.
Hanna is survived by three sons Moody Kim & wife Sharon Kim, Myung Nam Kim & wife Carol Kim, Paul Kim and wife Yong Hee Kim, and daughter, Myong Choi and husband Byung Choi. Grandchildren: Esther Kim, Catherine Hompesch, David Kim, Rebecca Choi, Crystal Nuchkasem, Grace Choi, and Jessica Choi. She is also survived by numerous great grand children.
A viewing and memorial service will be held at New Song Church in Carrollton, Texas on March 11th. Viewing will be at 4:30 pm, and service will start at 5:30 PM. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend.
Hanna’s legacy of faith, resilience, courage, and love will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26
