Ida Louise Alford Noblin's Obituary
Age 95, born in the Methodist parsonage at Saucier, Mississippi on February 20, 1916, the last of five children passed away on January 4th, 2011. She grew up in various parsonages in Mississippi, enrolling at Whitworth College in the fall of 1933. Graduating two years later with an award in Religious Studies, she went to Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, finishing in 1937. She spent the next nine months working for the Mississippi Children’s Home Society, an agency placing children in adoptive homes. After three months teaching in Laurel, Mississippi, she married James Swope Noblin, a Methodist minister, August 28, 1938. To them were born five sons, four of whom survive her. She earned a Masters Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1957. In June 1957 the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where her husband attended Perkins School of Theology at SMU, graduating in 1960. He served pastorates at several churches in Dallas including White Rock United Methodist and Lovers United Lane Methodist until his retirement. He died in 1990. Ida Louise taught in the Dallas Independent School District for 23 years, retiring in 1980. Later she served as a chaplain at Parkland Hospital for four years and as oncology, gerontology and hospice chaplain at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio until retiring in late 1986 when she returned to Dallas. She is survived by four sons and three daughter-in-laws, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Sons, James Curtis Alford, Glenn Noblin and wife Barbara, David Noblin and wife Sharon, Mark Noblin and wife Margaret; grandchildren, David Noblin Jr., Rebecca Noblin Stryszak and her husband Michal Stryszak and Audrey Noblin Stanfield and her husband Chris Stanfield; great grandchildren, Jonathan Noblin, Stephen Stanfield, Hannah Stanfield, Samuel Stanfield, Peter Stanfield and Sarah Grace Stanfield; and step grandson, Matthew Baab and wife Brenda Brock. A memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, January 21st at Northaven United Methodist Church on Preston Road at Northhaven in Dallas, Texas. A reception will follow the service at the church.
