A CELEBRATION and THANKSGIVINGFor the Life ofIda Mae Glaze BaileyIda Mae Glaze Bailey was the fourth daughter born January 22, 1920 to the late Jesse James and Ivanah Washington Glaze. Her sisters who preceded her in death were Carrie Lee Glaze Bobby, Aze Lee Glaze Neely, Annie Mae Glaze Porter and Jessie Dean Glaze Waiters. Her birth and childhood occurred in Midway (Madison County) Texas. Ida Mae attended and completed her education at Sam Houston High School in Huntsville, Texas. As a young lady, she moved to Dallas where she met the love of her life, Harrison “Harry” Bailey, Jr. They married September 4, 1941. They were married for 53 years. He preceded her in death. With her marriage to Harry she was blessed with her first daughter, Frances Lorraine Bailey of Dallas, Texas. To this union three children were born: Warren Delano Bailey (who preceded her in death), Harrison Bailey III, and Brenda Yolonda Bailey of Dallas, Texas.In 1958 she and Harry were one of the original homeowners in Hamilton Park buying their second home, which became their lifetime home. She then transferred her church membership from St. Paul A.M.E. Church where she had served in the Sanctuary Choir to Hamilton Park Methodist Church. She immediately began singing with the Chancel Choir, Sunrise Choir, Imani Choir and Sisters in Christ Choir. She was sought after for her beautiful alto voice. She also served on the Bereavement Ministry, United Methodist Women, Mature Adults Ministry and Feeding the Homeless Ministry.Ida Mae was a fantastic cook and loved to share her food with everyone in the community. This love of cooking served her well as the worked at J.J. Rhodes Elementary School in the Dallas Independent School District. She would later become Cafeteria Manager in Richardson Independent School District. She retired in 1984. She was also a lifetime PTA member.She is the guardian grandmother of Harrison Bailey IV and Brandon Bailey of Dallas, Texas and grandmother to Vikki Elaine Ellis-Schultz, Sheldon O’Shea Ellis (Nola) and Dana Reshay Ellis. She is the aunt of Rogers Waiters, Sr. (Kathy), Michael, Waiters, Gwenevere Denise Mitchell of Palo Alto, CA. and many loving nieces and nephews and godmother of Lonnie Banks.
