Ida Maude Buys' Obituary
Ida Maude Buys, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with our Lord December 13, 2023. Born in Henderson, Texas, on April 8th, 1933, to Sidney Clifford and Stella Beth Maxwell. Ida's journey was marked by compassion, service, a profound commitment to education and an unwavering love for her family.
Ida was a beloved wife and mother, the heart of her family that extended to three children, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Earl M. Buys, on September 3, 1954, blossomed into a remarkable 67-year union until Earl's passing in 2021.
Education was Ida's passion and calling. She graduated from Houston Stephen F. Austin High School in 1951 and furthered her studies at Baylor University and the University of Houston, earning her degree in Education in 1953. Her career in teaching began in 1954, where she dedicated herself to shaping the lives of second-grade students, later transitioning into the field of special education.
Ida's life unfolded as an inspiring journey alongside Earl, an Air Force Officer. Over 25 years of service, they embraced the challenges of military life, making thirteen moves before settling in Richardson, Texas. Her teaching career continued in Houston, Anchorage, and Knob Noster, Missouri, contributing to the education of children in various corners of the country.
Upon Earl's Air Force retirement, they made Richardson their permanent home. Her academic pursuits were crowned with a master’s degree in special education from Texas Woman's University. Ida's dedication to special education persisted, culminating in her retirement from Garland Independent School District in 1996.
In retirement, Ida and Earl reveled in their travels, cherished family moments, and found solace at their lake house on Cedar Creek Lake. Her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was surpassed only by her devotion to God and family.
