Mrs. Ida Bernice Streitmatter's Obituary
STREITMATTER, IDA B. was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on March 4, 1922, the daughter of George Bickers and Eva Bethel Bickers. She passed away on August 30, 2007. As a graduate of Lane High School, Charlottesville, she was employed as a comptometer operator for Trailways Bus Lines. She was married in the Chapel of the University of Virginia in 1947 to David E. Streitmatter and accompanied him to Chicago, where he completed his medical education at Northwestern University and Internal Medicine Residency at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital. Ida enjoyed working as an interviewer in the employment office of the hospital. Upon moving to Dallas, Texas, in 1955, Ida became a full-time homemaker who took pride in cookie-baking, gift wrapping, Christmas card sending, and Christmas tree decorating. Her friends will remember her for her sweet smile, ready wit, and beautiful silver-gray hair. As a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church she volunteered as a Sunday School Kindergarten teacher, Circle member, and touched many lives as hostess for memorial service receptions and as visitor for nursing home residents and the bereaved. Preceded in death by older brothers, Alfred, Herman, and Walter Bickers. Ida is survived by her husband of 60 years; brother, James Bickers of Charlottesville; and by special friend, Lois Dollens. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Norma Bickers, and Marilyn Woodman & her husband Forrest J. Woodman, MD of Evanston, IL; nieces, Vicki Howard, Stephanie Bickers, Linda Ritter, Norma-Kaye Banton, Ellen Lambert, and Karen Herlyn; nephews, Walter (Chip) Bickers, Duane Bickers, Mickey Bickers, Bryan Bickers, Charles Woodman, MD, and David Woodman; and by many grand nieces and nephews in the Charlottesville area. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Rd. in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Preston Hollow Presbyterian Foundation or Pastor’s Fund.
