Mrs Inez Mitchell Bailey's Obituary
Inez Mitchell Bailey our Beautiful, Loving, Thoughtful, and Strong Mother passed from this life into Jesus' arms on Christmas Day, 12-25-2020.
She was born 9-23-1924 in Rome, Mississippi. She was the seventh of nine children born to Clarence and Bertha Mitchell and the only surviving one of her brothers and sisters.
She met our Dad, D. C. Bailey, on a blind date while attending business school in Jackson, MS. They were married three months later, on April 12, 1944. When Dad returned after serving with the Army Air Corps in the Philippines during WWII, they settled in Stamford, Texas. Moving from the lush green of the Mississippi Delta to the dry hot weather of west Texas was quite a culture shock for Mom. She always remembered experiencing her first West Texas sandstorm as she thought the world was coming to an end. However, she grew to love Texas and called it her home.
Most of their married life was spent in Wichita Falls and Dallas where they raised their four children. She was very active in her church, Walnut Hill Methodist, doing anything she could to help, from cooking and washing dishes, to answering the phone. She was a big believer in prayer. She started and ended each day reading scripture and ended many of her conversations with “This is the day that the Lord hath made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.
She loved the night sky and would always marvel at the moon in all its splendor. She enjoyed a glass of wine in the evening and reminiscing about her life experiences. She grew up in the depression and had some great stories. A favorite was that she shared a room and a bed with two of her sisters. During her teenage years it was a race to see who could get home first and be the lucky one to get to wear the flannel night gown.
Her faith and her family were her number one priorities! Her world revolved around her husband, her children, her in-law children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Later in life, after her kids were raised, she worked several years at Brookhaven College in the bookstore. This was a job she loved as she met so many good friends.
She lost our Dad in 1993, after 49 years of marriage. She missed him every day, but she pressed on making a life filled with service to her church and volunteering at Medical City Hospital. She had a terrific sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was a master at crossword puzzles and loved to play bridge. She also loved her Dallas Cowboys, especially when Tony Romo was their quarterback.
She was a force and such a presence in our lives. We will miss her every day and love her forever.
She is survived by four children: Jane Crockett & husband William (Bill) of Sherman, TX; Gayla Fussell & husband James Edward (Ed) of Richardson, TX; Jeffrey Charles & wife Teresa of Double Oak, TX; and Kelly C. of Carrollton, TX. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Tillotson & husband Brent, Craig Crockett & wife Emily, Kathryn Crockett, Savannah Fussell, Taylor Bailey, and Jackson (Jack) Bailey; seven great-grandchildren: Bailey and Riley Tillotson, and Scout, Miles, Grayson, Birdie and Wesley Inez Crockett.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated and buried with our Dad in Haskell, Texas. Services are pending at this time due to COVID 19.
