Inez Benningfield Cannon's Obituary
Inez Benningfield Cannon, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2009. Inez was born August 6, 1911, in Clarksville, Texas. She was the first of six children of Edna and Tom Benningfield. She graduated from Clarksville High School and attended TWC (now Texas Wesleyan University) in Fort Worth. During World War II Inez worked at North American Aviation where she met her future husband, L. H. Jack Cannon of Dallas. They were married in 1944 and she became a wonderful homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She was the mainstay of the Benningfield and Cannon families. She was a great cook and many, many of her meals were enjoyed over the years by family and friends. One of Inez’s hobbies was collecting miniature souvenir spoons which she got on her travels with Jack to cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Widowed in 1973 Inez continued to live in the same residence she and Jack had occupied until her 94th year when she moved to Bentley Manor Assisted Living. Approaching her 98th year, she asked her family to remember her as having lived a full and happy life. She was a member of Lovers Lane UMC for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-nine years, Jack; four siblings, Wendell, Paul and Thomas Benningfield and Dorothy Coker; daughter-in-law Becky Cannon; and grandson Mark Cannon. She is survived by sons, Jack W. Cannon and wife Joyce of Dallas, and Tom Cannon of Lubbock; grandsons Jack C. Cannon of Dillon, Colorado, and David Cannon and wife Natalie of Austin; step-grandson Michael Armstrong of Norman, Oklahoma; step-granddaughter Katherine Stack-Dye and husband Wayne of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister Sue White and husband Jack of Fort Worth; brother-in-law Bill Coker of Dallas; sisters-in-law Jean Cannon of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and Virginia Benningfield of Claremont, California; three great grandchildren, Brittany Stack, Phoenix Dye and Lily Armstrong; nieces Diann Ring and husband Robert, Aves Munson, , Pam Speir and husband Garry, Betty White, Charlotte Whitten and nephew Jim Coker, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Visitation from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 24th, at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, at Wildwood Chapel, Restland Funeral Home and Cemetary, 9200 Restland Rd, Dallas, Tx.
