Inga Maj Harris' Obituary
Maya passed away on November 2, 2023. She was born in Lima, Peru, on May 5, 1937, to Ejnar and lngrid Snobohm, Swedish nationals who were living in Lima. Maya spoke three languages at an early age: Swedish at home, Spanish with her sister and friends, and English at school.
She graduated from the San Silvestre Girls School in Lima, before matriculating at Leeds
University, Leeds, England, where she pursued a commercial course for one year.
Upon returning to Lima, she worked at the Swedish Embassy, various Swedish companies in
Lima, and then in the office of U.S. airline company, where she met her American husband,
Sidney Harris. Their two children were born in Peru.
The married couple embarked upon an international career which included living in Mexico,
Spain, ltaly, and Belgium, with an interlude in Chicago. In Mexico she worked on and off in
various administrative jobs. In Europe, Maya mastered both Italian and French, always with a
flawless accent. In every country she found a residence, a school for her kids, making a home
and helping her family adjust to each new environment.
After her husband's retirement, the couple relocated to Dallas and then Richardson, where they
have lived for over twenty-five years. Maya was a member of Fellowship Dallas Church, Cooper
Fitness Center, Topics II supper club, and the International Women's Club of Dallas at various
times before falling ill.
She was a kind, loving person who was very attached to her family and friends. She is survived
by her husband, Sid Harris, her daughter Cristina Harris, her son Sidney B. Harris and wife Beth,
seven grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren.
Special thanks to the caretakers and staff at Fountain View, Highland Springs, who made her
comfortable in her last years.
