Ingeborg Elizabeth McDonald's Obituary
Ingeborg Elizabeth McDonald
March 30, 1926 – June 11, 2020
Inge McDonald passed away on Thursday, June 11th 2020 in Dallas, TX, surrounded by her family: daughter, Marla McDonald; son, Malcolm McDonald and daughter-in-law, Susan Passoni.
Born in Helmstedt, Germany, Inge moved to London after the war where she met her future husband, Gerald (Gerry) McDonald, a fledgling chemical engineer from Scotland. After Gerry took a job with Universal Oil Products (UOP), they moved to the United States and were married in 1955. For the next six years, Inge and Gerry traveled from refinery to refinery as Gerry was a member of a team of start-up engineers. Driving cross country in an old turquoise station wagon,Inge and Gerry explored the U.S. via the new interstate highway system – quite an adventure for a girl from small town Germany! Eventually they settled down in Summit, New Jersey where they
raised Marla and Malcolm. Inge was a doting mother who encouraged and supported her children.
In 1983, Inge and Gerry retired to Siesta Key in Sarasota, Florida. They enjoyed over thirty years at the Gulf & Bay Club, their base from which they traveled the world. An avid tennis player, Inge could be found almost daily on the courts at The Oaks Club, where she proudly played on the
women’s tennis team.
In 2017, a year after Gerry died, Inge moved to Belmont Village in Dallas, TX, to be closer to her daughter. After years of being very active, Inge began to suffer from the effects of severe osteoporosis. Though struggling with her declining mobility, she still boasted about playing tennis until two weeks after her 90th birthday!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Animal Rescue League of Boston, 10 Chandler Street, Boston MA 02116 www.arlboston.org, an organization near and dear to Inge’s heart.
