Yoder, Irene Parker's Obituary
Irene P. Yoder, 101, passed away peacefully on Monday August 19,2024 at The Reserve in Dallas TX. She was the cherished wife of the late George Gordon Yoder, who predeceased her in October 2003. She is also predeceased by her son Gee Yoder of Missouri. Irene leaves behind her son Lee Barton Yoder and wife Lori Yoder. Irene left behind many grandchildren; William G. Yoder and his wife Manju, Pamela Thistlewaite and her husband Robert, Bandy Nichole Owen, Robert Wayne Prickett and wife Alisha, Christopher Lee Michael Yoder, and predeceased Patricia Yoder Welch. Irene also leaves behind many great grandchildren.
Born on June 30,1923, Irene was the beloved daughter of the late Katherine Spires and Herbert Parker. A proud graduate of Newton High school, Mississippi class of 1941. She was an avid reader and loved reading mysteries. She would look forward to receiving new mystery books for her birthdays and holidays. Irene worked at the Newton National Bank where she met her husband, Gordon. She also managed many properties in Newton, Mississippi and moved to TX when she married Gordon on May 5th, 1962. In Dallas, TX she supported Gordon’s business as an administrative assistant for the Gordon Yoder Incorporated company. In 2000 Irene and her husband established the G Gordon Yoder TV News Video Workshop Scholarship with a large donation to the National Press Photographers Association. The $1,000 grant is awarded annually by NPPA to a working television news photographer who wants to attend the workshop in Norman, OK.
Irene and Gordon loved to travel the world. They enjoyed the culture and sights of many exotic places, their favorite being the Serengeti in Africa. They went back to Africa many times. Irene cherished every moment she had with Gordon and captured these trips in numerous photographs throughout the years.
The Yoder family would like to thank the staff of The Reserve in Dallas TX for all the loving care they provided. The family would also like to thank Lee Hamilton, who has supported the family throughout the years and has gone above and beyond to help. We are so grateful to you all.
A memorial service is planned for Irene at the Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX on September 7, 2024, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NPPA (nppa.org) » Gordon Yoder News Video Workshop Award Application (nppa.org).
