Isabelle Jones Barker's Obituary
Isabelle Jones Barker, 93, of Lewisville, Texas, was received in heaven into the arms of Jesus her Savior on June 29, 2025.
Isabelle was born in Girdler, Kentucky, on September 24, 1931, to the late Chester and Ethel Jones. She had nine siblings, two of whom are still living. She graduated from Barbourville High School and Southland Bible Institute, both in Kentucky.
Through the years, Isabelle held many different jobs, including retiring from JCPenney, but her favorite has always been raising her children and serving along with her husband in his many roles as an academic Bible professor, teacher, Bible translator, and General Editor of the New International Version (NIV) Study Bible. In her spare time, Isabelle enjoyed gardening, music, and being with her many friends and family.
In addition to being a loving wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Isabelle taught children in church for many decades and, for the past several years, has worshiped and served at First Baptist Church at the Fields in Carrollton, Texas.
Isabelle is survived by her loving husband of almost 72 years, Dr. Kenneth L. Barker; four children: Ken (Brenda) of Brentwood, Tennessee; Pat Brettschneider (John) of Emigrant, Montana; Ruth Gillen (Mike) of Flower Mound, Texas; and David (Dhey) of Lewisville, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sister and brother and their families; many nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church at the Fields (Memorial Gift in Memory of Isabelle Barker) at https://firstfields.org/give or The Gideons International at https://gideons.org/donate.
