Isobel L Farrar's Obituary
Isobel Leone Hollabaugh Farrar, 95, of Weatherford (formerly of Dallas), passed into the arms of her loving Saviour on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, with her friends and family near.
Isobel was born in Midlothian, Texas on September 24, 1927, to Georgia and Earl Hollabaugh. She, along with her older sister Dorothy would later welcome little sister Betty and much younger brother Ray to the depression-era family in the Waxahachie-Midlothian community.
Isobel was graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1944 and although she never attended college, she excelled in every position she would pursue later in her life, primarily in the bookkeeping arena. In July 1947, she married the love of her life, a young radar technician fresh out of World War II, Warren Ward Farrar of Rocket, Texas, and they would go on to spend 65 years together before Warren’s passing from cancer in 2013.
Isobel and Warren were inseparable, with their only time apart being when Warren was at work or on the golf course. Isobel ruled the house and Warren ruled the workplace, spending his entire career at the CBS Affiliate, KDFW-TV in Dallas, eventually retiring as station engineer. Their marriage was founded on the principle that Isobel kept the inside of the house (which she did with unequaled excellence), and Warren kept the outside with a yard as beautiful as any botanical garden.
Isobel was known far and wide as the most responsible and conscientious person one could ever meet. No one was more organized and determined than Isobel and she instilled a tremendous work ethic, along with model-citizen virtues in her two sons, Steve and Terry. Both of the boys would go on to enjoy successful careers-Terry in the IT industry, and Steve in the restaurant industry. Steve’s career, in fact, would eventually take him to the top of executive management and national recognition at the Wendy’s Restaurant franchise.
Throughout her life, Isobel had a deep and committed walk with the Lord. She and Warren were long-time members of Northway Baptist Church in Dallas, and they would go out of their way to support brother-in-law George Bearden in his Baptist pastorates. Privately, they gave generously to many Christian ministries, particularly the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Occasionally fastidious, but always loving, Isobel was disciplined in every aspect of her life. She led the care among her family for her disabled father well into her adult years, comforting him as the result of his trauma-induced illnesses from World War I and other work-related injuries. In her later years, Warren and Isobel would enjoy going to the movies together and taking trips, many of which landed them on a golf resort with sister Dorothy and her family, visiting son Steve and his wife Diana in one of their beautiful Arizona homes, or meeting brother Ray and his wife Glenda in some exotic locale.
Cared for by a loving team of Angels in Weatherford during her last months, Isobel became a favorite in her assisted-living and nursing home settings, closing her earthly life with a smile and sincere appreciation for those that helped her with the challenges of life’s final stages. Although her journey here is complete, Isobel will be missed by many.
Isobel was preceded in death by her husband Warren; sons Steve and Terry; and sisters Dorothy Bearden and Betty Colleps.
She is survived by her brother Raymond Hollabaugh of Abilene; grandchildren Lori Farrar Kakashvilli and husband Paata, Adam Farrar and wife Patti; four great grandchildren; daughters-in-law Diana Farrar of Scottsdale, Arizona and Sherri Rollins of Frisco; nephews Rodger Hollabaugh and wife Becky of Breckenridge, Lin Bearden and wife Tiffany of Weatherford; Tony Bearden and wife Cindy of Weatherford, and niece Kim Cherry and husband David of Gordon; devoted neighbors Scott and Erika Anderson of Farmers Branch and Steve and Becky Souter of Farmers Branch, along with many great nieces, great nephews and special friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1 pm to 1:45 pm Saturday, June 10 at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, with a short graveside service to follow at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or Samaritan’s Purse.
