Kay (also known as Mom to so many, as well as Gramma, Mia, and Auntie Kay) was born in Dallas, Texas on October 14, 1937. Until her senior year of high school, she attended Central High School in Muskogee, OK where she met, and later married David A. Carlton on January 21, 1956. Her family moved to Dallas, TX her senior year where she graduated from Sunset High School in 1955.
Kay began her “career” in one of her favorite and most cherished rolls and that was as a wife, mom, and homemaker. Once all her children were school age, she began working outside the home at the Denton YMCA as office manager and later Zale Corporation, Re-insurance Division where she retired in the late 1990’s.
Kay was a talented seamstress and there was nothing that she couldn’t sew, including a full 3-piece suit for David, shirts for her sons, dresses and outfits for her daughter and granddaughters and yes, even Barbie clothes which were perfect with every detail, including tiny buttons and zippers.
Kay is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #935, Lewisville, TX. While she was an active member, she received her 50-year pin and served several offices including Worthy Matron of both the Irving Chapter OES and Denton Chapter OES.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David Carlton, her father, Charles Archie McLarty and mother, Lela Mae McLarty.
It was obvious that Kay loved her family with all her heart. She is survived her son, Monty Carlton and wife, Edie of Valley View, TX; daughter, Kathy (Carlton) Morales and husband, Tim of Baytown, TX; son, Charles (Chip) Carlton of Flower Mound, TX and her brother & sister-in-law Michael & Deena McLarty of Corinth, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Chelsea Carlton, Shannon Waterhouse, Darl
Waterhouse, Dean Haddock, Randi Richards, Cole Morales, and Carlie Carlton. She had 8 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews, and a host of friends whom he considered her extended family. She is also survived by her “four-legged” family – the family dog, Bailey and the cat, (who thinks she is a dog), Meow-Meow.
Kay’s entire family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to her “every-day caregiver” over these past three years – her son, Chip. The family would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to her very special caregiver, Alyssa, whom she loved dearly. Your love and care for our mom was nothing more than spectacular and you will forever have a special place in our hearts. Kay’s family would like to thank each of you for your continued love and prayers.
