J. Dale Pogue, 93, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on June 11, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 11211 Northwest Hwy, Dallas Texas on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11 a.m., officiated by the Reverend Donald Berg. Born on December 10, 1928, in a farming community in rural Hopkins County, also known as Pine Forest, Texas, J. Dale’s early experiences set the foundation for his career as a butcher and meat market manager and for his life-long passions: he loved horses, playing dominos, old TV westerns, bluegrass music, and planting and tending his remarkable vegetable garden. His hobbies included handicapping horse races, cooking and baking, pickling and canning his harvests, playing poker and fantasy football. Family nights playing games and telling jokes and stories around the table always put his humor on display. He was a man of his word with the guys and a charmer with the ladies. And that twinkle in his baby blues was most proud when he was surrounded by family, especially at Sunday morning worship. Having served in the naval reserve, J. Dale was a true patriot who loved his country, always upholding truth, honor and respect.
J. Dale is preceded in death by his parents Jack Marcus and Eula Irene Pogue, his beloved wife Jerry Sue Pogue, and his eldest daughter Terry Lynne Waggoner. He is survived by his son Tommy Pogue (Diane) of Mabank, TX, daughter Tracy Settimi (Ronnie) of Dallas, son-in-law Jack Waggoner of San Antonio, TX, grandsons Eric Jackson (Christy) of Belton, TX and Brett Waggoner (Amanda) of San Antonio, TX, granddaughter Kennedy Settimi of Dallas, TX, great-grandsons Davis Jackson, Asa Jackson and Bennett Jackson of Belton, TX, caregiver Jacqueline Walker and rescue dog Baby.
