A kind, caring, exemplary person I am proud to call a good friend. I feel blessed that, after too many years, we were able to meet and catch up over dinner a couple of years ago and we made sure to stay in touch. Dear Becca and Family, I was saddened to hear of Jaan's passing. You are much in my thoughts today as you prepare for the "celebration of his life" and Heavenly home going. It was such a delight to meet Jaan and you, Becca, on one of my visits from Lynchburg, VA, and to get to share a meal with both of you. I will always remember Jaan's greeting to me when I had the privilege to visit KAAM with Lil and Frank Eastman and I got to sit in on a live broadcast of 'Fridays With Frank' and another visit to his home broadcast studio. He had a wonderful smile and a wonderful gift in his presentation to the listeners. He will be missed but his legacy will live on. May God's peace be evident in the days to come. I never met Jaan; I'm one of the many listeners out there, first at KAAM and lately at KGVL. It was a happy morning when I heard Jaan's voice again having discovered AM 1400! Radio listeners will come across one personality or another who touches a chord, and who really makes a difference in ways both large and small. Jaan McCoy was one of those for me. Listening to him for many years hosting The Breakfast Club always got me in a better mood for the day. My thanks to him for that.
He was "John Leader" when I met him at 570 CHYM in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. That was 1980. What I remember most about Jaan, besides his great voice and passion for broadcasting, was that he was a man with a genuine, personal faith in God. He encouraged me greatly in those days, and I wish his friends and family my sincere condolences. Jaan knew his Saviour, and His Saviour has not failed him. You will see him again.
