Jack Barnett's Obituary
On December 22, 2023, Jack Barnett went home to be with our Heavenly Father, after a multi-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Jack grew up in the small town of Oakwood, Texas. In high school, he was an accomplished basketball athlete. After high school, he attended Sam Houston State University and about one year into college, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann King. During this time, he held jobs in the education system as a school bus driver and teacher, and then later as an accountant with a CPA firm. During the Berlin War Crisis, Jack was drafted into the Army. After a brief time in the Army, he joined the National Guard Reserve.
Demonstrating a desire for career growth and greater opportunities to provide for his family, Jack and Mary Ann moved to the big city of Dallas, Texas, where he secured a position as an accountant with Texas Instruments. While at Texas Instruments, he earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. Jack’s favorite hobbies included fishing and golf. Jack and Mary Ann had three daughters and celebrated 71 years of marriage in July 2023.
Jack was a faithful Christian his entire life. He attended Churches of Christ in each town where he and Mary Ann called home, and even helped to start a Church of Christ in Sachse, Texas, where he served as an Elder. His final church home was Wylie Church of Christ in Wylie, Texas. If asked today, his daughters will tell you the greatest thing their dad did was teach them about the love and grace of God, and the salvation that is afforded to us all through Jesus Christ.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, William Wade Barnett, and his mother, Sally Mae Barnett; his brother James Elbert Barnett; and his grandson, Bradley Jacob Scoggins. He leaves behind his faithful wife, Mary Ann Barnett; sisters Lela Wade Coates and Maxine Alexander; daughter Christi Lynn Tramell and husband, Phillip; daughter Julie Ann Alford and husband Greg; daughter Wendy Denise Garrett and husband Andy; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A short visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Wylie Church of Christ, located at 901 S. Ballard Ave. in Wylie, TX 75098 at 9:30 AM. Service will begin at 10 AM followed by a 12 PM interment at Restland Cemetery, 13005, Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243 in the Garden of Inspiration.
