Jack Bruce Bennett's Obituary
Jack B. Bennett, 93, of Plano and Richardson passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2017, at his home.Jack was born April 26, 1924, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Gordon M. and Irma W. Bennett as a toddler Jack moved to Texas with Parents.He graduated from High School in South Lockett in 1942 then attended Texas Tech in Lubbock for one semester before entering the Army in April 1943. After basic training in Fort Riley, Kansas he joined the First Infantry Division in November 1944 in England. He landed D-Day with that Division on June 6, 1944, on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. Jack participated in battles across France, Belgium and was seriously wounded near Aachen, Germany on October 13, 1944 and spent Six Months in an Army Hospital in England. After returning to the United States Jack spent another 17 months of hospitalization in Army Hospital in Temple, Texas and a Naval Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. After an honorable discharge from the service in March 1946 where he returned to Vernon, Texas.Where he again resumed his education in September 1946 at Texas Tech University graduating with a B.S. Degree in Dairy and Food Science in May 1949. After working for The Borden Company for several months he returned to Texas Tech as a graduate student. In 1953 he joined Germantown Manufacturing Company as Dairy Products Sales Representative until his retirement in 1990. Jack was a life member of Richardson Masonic Lodge 1214, Dallas Scottish Rite, Hella Shrine, Life Member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Society of the First Infantry Division and Society of the 18th Infantry Regiment Association.While serving in WWII Jack earned the following Military Medals and Citations include Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, European-Africa Campaign with Bronze Arrowhead and (4) Battle Stars, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct, World War II Victory Medal, Unit Citation, French Victory Medal, Recipient of the Knight of the French Legion of Honor, highest award given by the French Military, Belgium Freedom Medal and Distinguished Service Award by Texas Tech University.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Bennett, and daughters Cindy & husband Dale, grandchildren Jessica, Shelly, and Jeremy. Diana & husband Bobby, granddaughter Megan & husband Blake, great-grandchildren Sarah and Jack. Brother Gordon & wife Sharon of Athens Texas. Sister-in-Law Pat Bennett of Dallas as well as many nieces and nephews.Our family would like to personally thank the care givers Jack had during his illness. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park. Following the service, all are invited to a reception at The Villages at Mapleshade located at 3670 Mapleshade Lane, Plano, TX 75075.
