Jack Adam Burris' Obituary
BURRIS, JACK ADAM was born in Amarillo, TX, on January 18, 1928, to Leonard A. and Audrey (Brooks) Burris. He passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012. He grew up in Dallas, and upon graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1945, enlisted in the U.S. Army. He attended SMU from 1948-51, where he lettered in track and received his Bachelor’s degree, and later returned for his MBA. He married Betty Sue Hartline on February 9, 1951, in Dallas. A life-long fan of his first employer, Dr. Pepper, Jack enjoyed a successful career in the grocery industry, and retired from Kraft Foods in 1989. Jack was a kind mentor and advisor to his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed surprising the family every now and then with jokes and unexpected antics. He truly was a good man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, and friend. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elizabeth Jane Burris and his wife Sue. He is survived by his sister, Pat Phillips, daughter, Judy and her husband, Luis Rey, all of Garland; son, Gary of Arlington; son, Greg and his wife Terry and son, David, all of Garland. “Gran” had 8 grandchildren: Luis Rey, Jr. and his wife, Ashley; Aimee (Rey) Watkins and her husband, David; Carrie (Burris) Johnson and her husband, Chadd; Kyle Burris and Megan Yandell, Zane Burris, Sara Burris, and Spencer and Ally Ashworth. Jack also had 8 great-grandchildren: Shelby, Brooklyn and Kendall Watkins, Braylee, Bronston, Aylon, and Ayler Rey; and Cade Johnson. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. at First Baptist Church, 801 West Avenue D in Garland. There will be a private graveside service at Restland Memorial Park on Saturday morning. Memorials may be made to the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society (http://www.daps.us/), or to the First Baptist Church of Garland. Jack was a 16-year survivor of Parkinson’s Disease.
