Jack D. Tamplin's Obituary
Mr. Jack Durward Tamplin, a resident of Dallas TX, died comfortably in his home on October 23, 2016Mr. Tamplin was born in Marshall, Texas August 15, 1921 to William F. Tamplin and Beulah McLeroy Tamplin. The Tamplin’s moved to Kerrville, TX when Jack was 6 years old. He attended Tivy High School, then enlisted in the Army at age 18. He served 21 years in the Army, rising through the ranks to retire in the grade of Major. He served in The South West Pacific in World War II. He went to flight school after the war and flew light aircraft and helicopters for the Army Air Corps. In the mid 40’s he was stationed in Korea where he met a beautiful New Yorker, Gloria Meisinger, who swept him off his feet. They married in 1948. Together they had two daughters and moved all over the world with the Army including postings in Japan and Taiwan. After leaving the service, he was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department and the U.S. Army in a civilian capacity that included a year of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Jack was always a gentleman no matter the situation. He was a remarkable example to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of what a man should be. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles and James, sister Billie Jean Artrelder and beloved daughter Kathleen Tamplin Groh. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Gloria Marie Meisinger Tamplin. He is also survived by his beloved daughter Jeanne Tamplin Backaiyar, 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way. The funeral service for Jack Tamplin will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 27, 2016 in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
