Jack Dempsey Walker's Obituary
Surrounded by family, Jack Dempsey Walker entered into eternal peace on Friday, October 3rd. Born in Loving Texas on December 29, 1925, Jack let a long and fulfilling life. Jack is preceded in death by his first wife, Dee Blake and parents, Roy & Lydia Walker. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Freda Walker; son, Doug Walker and wife, Regina; son, Roy Walker and wife, Sandra; and daughter, Edith Taylor and husband, Charles. He is also survived by stepson, Gary Thompson and wife, Julie; stepdaughter, Lorrie Cavezza and husband, Pete; stepson, Curtis Thompson and wife, Jan; stepson, Dane Thompson and wife, Angela; and stepson, Brig Thompson and wife, Lucy. In death, we focus on the day one was born and the day they pass. The only representation of a profound life lived on a marker, is the dash that resides between the two dates. Jack lived his dash. Jack’s dash should extend well beyond what any stone marker could ever contain. We focus on the day they joined us and the day they left us but the important fact is that he, Jack Walker, lived. A World War II Coast Guard Veteran, Jack retired after 20+ years from the City of Garland. He and his wife, Freda were long-time members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Garland. Papa Jack, as he is known, had 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was immensely loved and always had a hug and a story to tell, and each visit was full of laughter. He was a generous, loving, funny, teddy bear of a man who always had a smile. We will all miss those hugs and funny stories, but most of all we will miss him. We are each better for having been loved by Papa Jack. Jacks family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Service for Jack Walker will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
