With profound sadness we announce the passing of Jackie “Don” Shafer, our loving son, brother, uncle and friend to all whose lives he touched, on December 8, 2020, in Dallas, Texas.
Born in San Angelo, Texas to Graves Leonard Shafer and Edna (Witcher) Shafer, he had a very loving childhood in McCamey, Texas. As a child, he overcame and survived Polio, and then went on to serve his country in the Army during the Vietnam War.
He graduated from McCamey High School and Sul Ross State University.
After the war he settled in Houston, Texas and began a successful career as a draftsman for several oil companies, and eventually, he moved to Coppell, Texas.
He was the loving brother of Kay (Mike) Flahie of Dallas, Texas and uncle to Brick (Sheryl) Gilliland of Long Beach, Mississippi, Donna (Jessica) Early of Houston, Texas, Holly Bean and Stacey Shafer
of Lubbock, Texas, and Brandie (Tim) Gehan of Dallas, Texas. He also leaves behind cousin, Carmen Behrens and her family of San Angelo, Texas, two great nephews: Tyler Early of Houston, Texas and Jett Gehan of Dallas, Texas, as well as, his dear lifelong friend Susan Hittle of Dallas, Texas.
He was predeceased in death by his loving parents, brother, Leonard Graves (Jr.) Shafer and sister-in-law, Sharon Shafer, sister, Mary Francis Gilliland and brother-in-law Doug Gillliland.
