Jackson Doyle Lord's Obituary
Dr. Jackson Doyle Lord of Dallas, Texas passed from this life to his home in heaven with his Lord on September 21, 2022, at the age of 99. Jack was born on September 18, 1923, to Doyle and Dorothy (Hall) Lord in Ft Smith, Arkansas. He grew up in Dallas and was also raised by his stepmother Erma Lord, who took him to church; there he accepted Jesus as his Savior at a church crusade as a young teen. Being led into full-time Christian work after high school, he graduated (as class president) from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, which was where he met Ann Bonebrake of Iowa, the love of his life. After Moody, he went to Gordon College (Boston) for his BA, then into Christian camping and church planting, with revivals in churches, first in New England and later the Midwest.
In 1951, he married Ann in Diagonal, Iowa, and thereafter they went to Texas to be partners in work for the Lord. While attending Dallas Theological Seminary (from which he soon graduated), he became the pastor of Prairie Creek Baptist Church in Dallas where he served 25 years. He left there to fulfill a lifelong dream of getting his doctorate (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary), and then resumed his work as pastor (Richwood Baptist Church) for 10 years.
He was dedicated to teaching others, and before, during, and after his pastoral years, he also taught the Bible and pastoral skills at Lowell (MA) Bible School, Dallas Bible Institute/ College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Philadelphia College of Bible, Southern Bible Institute, and Dallas Baptist University. At one point, he was a professor teaching courses at seminary plus 3 different colleges at the same time.
Jack was a beloved hands-on pastor who shared the gospel, taught the Scriptures, led expansion and building programs as the churches grew, supported worldwide missions and missionaries, and was a leader in Christian camping, personally leading camps for all ages in his years as pastor and more. He influenced, taught, and mentored many to become pastors, missionaries, and Christian leaders in service worldwide.
Throughout his life, Jack was avid about fitness, especially tennis, which he played several days a week to well in his 90s. He worked hard at everything, even in his 80s and 90s taking up computer and internet skills so he could stay in touch. He loved humor and devoted himself to his family (with calls, visits, cards, personal attention, encouragement, and prayer) and his dear love Annie, caring for her throughout her long fight with Alzheimer's. Most of all, he wanted to share with all he met the good news of Christ's death for our sins and how we can obtain salvation through faith in Him alone - until God called him home, all who visited his home for any reason, or crossed his path in business (and often elsewhere), heard from Jack about Christ’s offer of salvation, of God's assurance of heaven for those who believe, and were given a chance to believe in Jesus as God’s Way to be made right with God once and for all. This was Jack’s passion.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Ann, son Richard Lord, grandson Marc Lord, sister Gail Lord Laubert (and husband Lawrence), and brother Billy Lord. He is survived by his sons David Lord (and wife Sharyl), and Donald Lord (and wife Dee); daughters Janet Lord-Rose and Carolyn Lord Allen; and daughter-in-law Sue Mumford Lord; 13 grandchildren - Steven (Jenna), Daniel (Ann), David, Andrew, Gentry (Jake), D’Ana (Eric), Julie (Nathan), Vicki (Kevin), Christy (Zach), Joshua (Taylor), Nick, Hannah, Jordan; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Dennis Lord (and wife Sharon); and many nephews and nieces and their spouses and children.
His body was interred at Restland Cemetery, and a public Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Bible Church in DeSoto, Texas on October 1. If you wish to make a donation in his memory, the family requests they be made to Jan-Kay Ranch Christian Camp (Detroit, Texas) or Dallas Theological Seminary in his honor.
