Jacquelyn Storey Barron's Obituary
BARRON, JACQUELYN STOREY EMERSON 86, former Abilene resident, died on Jan. 5, 2014 at a Dallas-area hospital. Born Jan. 24, 1927 in Dallas to Oscar and Jewell Emerson, she was married to the late Stanton Jacob Barron, M.D., first pediatrician and a founding member of Medical Arts in Corsicana. She graduated from North Dallas High School, then went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 1947. Later in life, she achieved a Master’s degree in English from Hardin-Simmons University in 2004. She was an avid reader and a fan of literature and poetry, specifically the works of Robert and Elizabeth Browning and William Faulkner. Several years ago, Jacquelyn donated a large collection of the works of William Faulkner, including several rare first editions, to Hardin-Simmons. She and her husband established multiple scholarships at Baylor, Hardin-Simmons and Howard Payne University promoting the importance of higher education. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Emerson Williams of Abilene; her nephews, David and Greg Williams; her niece, Julie Corder; her daughters, Virginia Nisbet, Joanne Newton and husband, Rick Newton, Beverly Barron Barnes, and Kathleen Hamilton and husband, Brian Hamilton. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jacqueline and James Nisbet; Corey Newton; Bryan, Elizabeth, Jacob and Jeffrey Barnes; Sarah, David, Jake and Mary Beth Hamilton; and three great-grandchildren, Barron and Emma Barnes, and Claire Barnes. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Park Cities Baptist Church, Dallas, in the Ellis Chapel. In lieu of flowers, bereavements can be sent to the Children’s Miracle Network.
