Jacquelyn Keithly (Shockley) Anderson's Obituary
Jackie Anderson, 80, a long-time Richardson resident, was called home by the Lord on Saturday, December 17, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was known to all as a woman of wonderful spirit – caring, optimistic, accepting, generous, and good-humored, even through many recent illnesses. We treasure our memories of her and aspire to engage life as she did. Jackie was born August 6, 1931 in Chatham, Louisiana. She was adopted by Virginia Grubbs Keithly and Granville Nichols Keithly of Dallas. Soon, they also adopted Jeanette and Jeanene, twins who preceded her in death. Jackie attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, Ursuline Academy, and Highland Park High School where she graduated in the class of 1950. After graduation she modeled clothing at the downtown Neiman-Marcus and fashion shows, and was a ballroom dance instructor. In 1951 she married Bill Shockley and the next nine years brought children Alan, Pat, Kevin, and Laura. She was very involved with children’s activities, scouting, and bridge. In later years she enjoyed her grown up children, reading, jewelry sales at Sterling, bingo, and church activities at Freeman Heights Baptist Church in Garland. After retirement she lived at Atria Richardson where she enjoyed many friendships and appreciated the very supportive staff. She remained a lifelong Texas Ranger baseball fan, and cheered them from her hospital bed during this year’s playoffs. Even at 80, just a few bars of music would get her fingers snapping and hips wiggling. Though her body was failing, her spirit was strong to the end. Jackie is survived by Rosa and Alan Shockley and their children Cecilia and Austin; Lesli and Steven Shockley, the children of Gloria Shockley Sopko and the late Pat Shockley, and step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren with Jackie’s honorary son-in-law John Sopko; Kevin Shockley and his sons Andrew Lemon, Mark Shockley, and Tim Shockley; and Laura Shockley Williams, her husband Rick and their son Bill. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, long-time friend Herb Singer, and many other friends. We invite you to add your own favorite memories or appreciations of Jackie to this web site.
