James Lewis Alder's Obituary
James Lewis Alder (Jim), 94, died in Dallas on September 13, 2016. Born on July 31, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, Jim was the son of the late Dr. Clayton and Florence Alder. Jim grew up in Chicago with his identical twin, John, and four other brothers and sisters, where he graduated from Von Steuben High School. Jim served in World War II in the Pacific, as the captain of a minesweeper, YMS433, where at a young age he became a Lt. J.G. After the War, Jim met and married Gloria June Weber, and had three daughters. He joined McNeil Laboratories as a salesman and ultimately moved to Dallas when he was named Sales Manager of the newly created Southwestern area. Jim was honored multiple times in his role as Sales Manager. He retired from McNeil after over 35 years with the company. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Gloria, his daughters Nancy Sides (son-in-law John), Diane Alder, and Susan Nelson (son-in-law Skipper), and his three grandchildren: James Sides, Jennifer Sides, and Victoria Alder. Jim was all about his family whom he loved dearly. He traveled extensively with Gloria to Alaska, Hawaii and all over Europe, Asia and other destinations, many of those on cruises where they met new friends and saw the world. Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, his work ethic, and his devotion to his wife and family. Over the past 10 years, he helped raise his granddaughter Victoria after she and her mom moved back to Dallas. Services will be held this Sunday, September 18 at Noon at Restland in the Wildwood Chapel. Jim will be buried at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery to honor his service to our country. Jim was a wonderful husband and father, and our “rock.” He will be in our hearts forever. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
