James Anderson's Obituary
James Mansfield “Andy” Anderson Jr., peacefully passed away on October 11,2011. Born in the family home in Alice, TX., on June 26, 1920, and raised in San Antonio, Andy lead an extraordinary, long and happy life. At the age of 21 while attending The University of Texas, Andy enlisted in the army and serviced in the 362nd Fighter Squadron Group and saw action in Normandy, Ardennes, France, Rhineland and other battles and campaigns during WWII. After the war, Andy returned to the University of Texas and completed his journalism degree. Moving to Dallas to start his career with Sentry Insurance, he met and married Betty Jean Pennington. Among the many accomplishments in his life, he coached a Boys Baseball Incorporated team, the Pirates, in Lake Highlands for 13 years when he ended his tenure as commissioner of the league. In his later years, he authored a book about his experiences in the war. Author, coach, son, brother, warrior, husband, father and friend, Andy is survived by his wife Betty, sons Michael and Greg, daughter-in -law Rebecca, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Andy’s life on October 18, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church at the corner of Northwest Hwy and Audelia Road.
