James Jackson Austin's Obituary
AUSTIN, JAMES JACKSON passed away Friday, May 10, 2013. Jim was born on April 1,1925 to Susannah and CM Austin in Greene County, Tennessee. He graduated as Valedictorian from Sullivan High School, Kingsport, Tennessee in 1943. Jim went on to Duke University where he was the drum major in the Duke Blue Devils marching band and was also a Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated with a BS degree in chemical engineering. Jim started his career at Eastman Kodak in Kingsport and then moved his family to Texas in 1958 to take a job with Texas Instruments. He retired from there in 1989. Jim was active in First United Methodist Church of Richardson where he served many years as usher and on various committees. Preceded in death by his parents – Susannah and CM Austin, brother – JD Austin, sister – Marie Edmunds and wife – Janice Hendrix Austin. Survived by sister – Elizabeth Whittemore of Kingsport, daughters – Jennifer Hurst of Richardson and Jeanine and husband Mark Wilson of Acworth, Georgia, and granddaughters – Jourdan Hurst, Avery Hurst, Hayden Wilson, and grandson – Jared Wilson. Service will be held Monday, May 13 at 2PM, First United Methodist Church of Richardson.
