James Baker was a great public servant with high moral and ethical standards. We are honored to list him as a friend. We loved it when he came to Dumas to hunt pheasant and have fellowship with the many friends and neighbors of Moore County. We will miss him as a statesman and as a good friend.
There's that smile – that real, genuine, from deep inside Judge Baker smile. Your accomplishments were many, but what set you apart is not so much what you did but who you were. That's the magnet that drew all to you, and that's what we'll all miss. I'm so grateful for your friendship. My heart breaks for your family, but how lucky they are to be your family.

Justice Baker will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. I feel very lucky to have clerked for Justice Baker on the Texas Supreme Court. He was a thoughtful jurist, willing to teach new lawyers about the law. But the best lessons from Justice Baker came from the example he set. Professional, respectful, and always a true gentleman.
