James William Bothwell's Obituary
James (Jim) William Bothwell James was born March 9, 1930 in McKinney, Texas and passed away on January 27, 2017 in Wylie, Texas. His battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s was victoriously won as he peacefully took his final breath. He was surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters. James is preceded in death by his mother, Lela Sutherland Bothwell, and father, Jesse Edward Bothwell. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Dottie) Jean Bothwell, Daughters Karen Denise Probasco and her husband Max of Plano Texas and Jana Lynne Grogean and her husband Joe Grogean, of Garland, Texas. Brothers Charles Bothwell and his wife Ilsa of Conroe, Texas and Doyce Bothwell and his wife, Shirley of Garland, Texas. “Pops” had six grandchildren, Melissa Floyd and her husband Dustin, Jacob Grogean, Lucas Grogean, Brady Probasco, Tyler Probasco, and Austin Probasco along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. James graduated from Crozier Technical High School in 1948 where he was a cadet in the Jr ROTC. As a cadet, he received numerous awards including high honors for his marksmanship. After High School, James worked for Hugh B William Manufacturing Company as a machinist. He joined the Air National Guard and worked at the Naval Air Station Dallas – Hensley Field as the machinist for Naval aircraft. James spent the majority of his career at Texas Instruments where he made many life long friends. In 1964, he began working as a machinist and for many years ran the Feasibility machine shop. He later became a sub-contract buyer for TI. James retired in 1991 so that he and his wife, Dottie could travel the country in their Holiday Rambler. After retirement, James worked part-time for Dignity Memorial as a coach driver. He blessed numerous families with his kindness and his heart for service during their time of grief. James was a long time member and president of Texins Bass Club. Fishing was his favorite pastime and he spent many days in his Ranger boat and many evenings cooking fresh fish for family and friends. He and Dottie joined Garland Sams in 1992 where he served in officer positions including president as well as hosting numerous campouts. One of James’ proudest achievements was his support of Texas Special Olympics. He organized teams of North Texas recreational vehicles to provide transportation and rest for Police officers running the Special Olympics Torch Run. The service for James Bothwell will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Garland. The family will receive friends with a visitation one hour prior to the service in the Parlor. Graveside service will follow at Restland Memorial Park.
