James Nicholas Bridges' Obituary
James Nicholas Bridges passed away in the company of his family at his home in Tioga, Texas, December 18, 2010. He was 89. A native of McAllen, Texas, Bridges was raised in Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University in the 1930s before enlisting as a pilot in the Army Air Force. During World War II he rose to the rank of Captain and was a squadron commander, making more than 150 flights over the Hump from Burma and India to China. He served in the military, active and reserves, for 27 years, retiring a Lt. Colonel. Bridges was a pilot for Braniff Airlines from 1946 to 1981, and served the local community as president and a board member on the Tioga School Board from 1982 to 1994. He is survived by his son John, daughter-in-law Annette, and granddaughter Jennifer, and preceded in death by his wife Juanell and son James N. Bridges Jr.
