Dr. James L. Carter, born on Tuesday, August 31, 1937 in McAllen, Texas and passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Richardson, Texas.Geoscience Professor Emeritus Dr. James Carter UTD held a Bachelor’s of Science degree in mining & geological engineering and a PhD in Geochemistry from Rice University. World renowned for his simulated moon dust he made for NASA, and the findings of a dinosaur in Big Bend National Park.James was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis J. (Kemp) Carter, stillborn twin daughters, father; Paul W. Carter, mother; Roberta (Treadway) Carter, brother; Paul T. Carter, and sister; Betty Lou Carter. He is survived by sister-in-law Carol (Galm) Carter, nieces; Tammie Vance, Meta Carroll, and Lena Carter, nephews; Harold W. Carter, James T. Carter, and Christopher L. Carter, three grandnieces, six grand nephews, two great-grandnephews, and four great-grand nieces.Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m at the University of Texas at Dallas Davidson-Grundy Alumni Center.In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James L. Carter Scholarship Fund UTD.
