James "Coach Jim" Edward Gaskey's Obituary
James “Jim” Edward Gaskey, 74, of Richardson, TX, passed away on October 8th, 2022 in Southlake Texas.
Jim was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania on May 16th, 1948. He graduated from Garland High School in 1966 where he was a part of the ‘63 and ‘64 State championship teams. He continued to play football at Stephen F. Austin, graduating in 1970 with a double major in History and Geography. He received his Masters in Administrative Education from Texas A&M Commerce.
He taught and coached at Westwood Junior High. In his 39 year career, he taught life sciences, geography, and history; he also coached football, basketball, and track.
Jim married Nanette Portillo on September 3rd, 1976. They were married for 46 blissful years, and had one daughter, Paige Gaskey Gibbons.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nanette, his daughter, Paige, his son-in-law, Jason, and his three granddaughters, Eleanor, Lucille, and Marilyn. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Gaskey, and his sister-in-law, Margie Gaskey, along with many nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Vera, and father, Walter.
A celebration of life will be held at Restland Funeral Home at the Abbey Chapel on February 1st at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to LoneStar Outreach to Place Ex-Racers - Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance at: https://www.lopetx.org
