James Elbert Day Jr's Obituary
James E. Day. Jr., 88, passed away quietly at home May 23. Beloved father, step father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, Jim Day will be remembered for his quick wit and kind heart. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1944; served in the Armed Forces, received a B.A. from University of Texas in 1948, a law degree from SMU in 1951 and continued to practice law until his death. Preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Berenice H. Day, sister Donna Sue Graham and husband Ralph, brother William S. Day and wife Jane, son James E. Day III, former wife Betty R. Day, wife Harriet B. Day, son in law Tim Atkeson. Survived by daughters Carolyn Day, Barbara B. Atkeson; sons John W. Day (wife Vicky), Lester Day (wife Karen); Robert B. Day; Jack Burrell (wife Virginia); Richard Burrell (wife Jennifer); grandchildren Natalie Day Wills (husband Rob); Tyler Day (wife Julie); Lisa Day, Christina Day, Chloe Day, Hunter Day (wife Felicity); Nicholas Day; Avery Burrell, Susannah Burrell, Raleigh Burrell, William Burrell, Ulysses Atkeson, Winslow Atkeson; great grandsons Jimmy Wills, Johnny Wills; wonderful nieces and nephews. Jim was a member of the Petroleum Club, Brookhollow Country Club, Coon Creek Club, Argyle Club, TBar M, and the Lajolla Eggwhites. He cherished times he spent with family in Creede, Colorado, his visits with friends in Mexico City, summers at the LaJolla Beach and Tennis Club, handball at the YMCA, and weekend tennis matches with his buddies. Services will be held at Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home on June 6, 2015 at 11:00 am. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the YMCA or charity of your choice.
