He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, and their offspring. James Clyde Huett joined the military in World War II and traveled the world. He was an Ensign in the Merchant Marines from 1942 to 1948. He was a certified Radio Officer for a number of different ships in the war. He received the Merchant Marine Distinguished Service Metal from Commander Sherman W. Reed, USMS, Superintendent of the Station, on behalf of the President of the United States, while in enemy action. While in Tripoli Harbor in 1943 on the SS William T. Coleman, under a concentrated air attack, the Coleman was tied to another ship. Both ships were loaded with ammunition and high octane gasoline. With no regard for his own safety in helping save his ship and her cargo and the lives of his shipmates, risked his life to run and cut the moorings aft. The stern of his vessel was only six feet from the blazing vessel. The extreme heat and exploding bombs made this mission extremely hazardous. Within minutes of cutting the burning ship loose from the Coleman and enabling their ship to proceed to a safe distance, the disabled ship blew up. James, back in Dallas after leaving the service in 1948, owned Buck’s TV Store in Pleasant Grove, TX where he sold and repaired tvs, and also sold 45 and 78 rpm records. He was elected President of the Kiwanis Club of Pleasant Grove. Later, he joined his brother, John, at the White Rock Airport, flying airplanes. Later, they would also delve into real estate, where they were very successful. While at the White Rock Airport, he met his future wife, Margaret. After marrying, they traveled and enjoyed life together. They moved to Rancho Bernardo, CA in 1984 and bought a beautiful home on the side of a mountain, where they lived with their dogs, JR, DJ and Scotty for a number of years, playing fierce tennis matches with each other, as well as in tournaments. Margaret insisted that they moved back to Dallas, where they got to see their grandchildren grow up, and enjoyed their great grandchildren. James’ service will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 12:30 pm, at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, TX, in the Wildwood Chapel, followed by a graveside service with a much deserved formal military honor guard salute. There will be a viewing on Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm in the main building of Restland.
