James Michael "Jamie" Burns' Obituary
Jamie Burns, born April 7, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away April 12, 2011 in Dallas, TX. He was a beloved father, husband, teacher, and friend. Jamie most recently taught ESL at Brookhaven College, where he was loved by all of his students. He was a passionate teacher who embraced people of all backgrounds. A life-long cyclist, he raced with Dallas-area teams and went on several long-distance bike trips across the US and abroad. He is survived by his children, Maggie Burns and Patrick Burns, his wife Carla Burns, his father Robert Vincent Burns, his brothers Robert Burns and David Burns, his sister Joanie Elliot, and his ex-wife Mary Ann Burns. He is preceded in death by his mother Gertrude Kennedy Burns and his nephew Shaun Kennedy Burns. A long-time Dallas resident and a graduate of Jesuit, Jamie enjoyed visiting his children in New York City. All who knew him will miss his charming smile and playful sense of humor. Family will receive friends April 17, 2011 from 5-7 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held April 18, 2011 at 11 AM at St Rita Catholic Church on Inwood Rd in Dallas.
