Laird Jr., James Charles passed away Dec. 16, 2018 at age 90. Born Nov. 13, 1928, in Joshua, TX to parents James and Mildred Laird, he later moved to Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School and University of Texas at Dallas. He worked at Collins Radio and Contel as an electrical engineer and served in the US Naval Reserve for 13 years as a radio operator. He was married to Dorothy Thurmond Laird for 63 years, and together they raised their family in Richardson. He was a very involved father and served as Scoutmaster for Troop 780 and especially enjoyed leading a trek at Philmont, New Mexico. He taught us to appreciate, explore and savor the outdoors, and to take pictures along the way. He later married Allena Tillis, who has been a wonderful companion, friend and wife to him these last 3 years. Preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Laird and their daughter Rebecca Ann Laird. Survived by his wife, Allena Laird, sister Virginia Laird Ott of Houston, son James Laird III and his wife Kathleen Laird, son-in-law Jeff Cooper and grandsons James Laird IV, Patrick Cooper and Ryan Cooper. He was a good husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. We take comfort knowing he was a Christian and as believers we have no doubt we will see him again in heaven. Service will be held at Restland, Wildwood Chapel, 10:00 am, Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. prior to the service.Funeral arrangements for Mr. James C Laird Jr have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
