James Douglas Lewis' Obituary
James Douglas Lewis was born May 4, 1926 in Shongaloo, Louisiana. He died on October 31, 2022 at his home in Garland, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Doug, as he was known by family and friends, graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas, Louisiana, and Kentucky. He was an employee of Kraft Foods for over 28 years and retired as the Engineering Manager of the Kraft Foods Plant in Garland, Texas. He served in the U.S Army during World War II and took part in the Occupation of Japan. He was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Lewis, daughter Marilyn Kay Smith, son James Lewis Jr.; grandchildren Brandon Smith and his wife Gari Anne, Brent Smith and his wife Carina, Cherie Booth and her husband Charles, Paige O’Neil and her husband Brad, and Austin Lewis; great-grandchildren Camille Smith, Kyleigh Booth, Caden Booth, Aria Smith, Westyn Smith, and Aubrey Smith. Visitation will be Monday, November 7 at First Baptist Church of Garland, Cockrell Chapel at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Memorial Donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – Doug Lewis Memorial Fund.
