I remember Uncle Pill as very happy and pleasant to be around.
I knew him mostly as my grandmother's brother, that is to say, not very personally myself.
But close enough to know something of what he was about -- which was only good things.
Although it's a given that mothers, nieces, nephews, etc. are not supposed to have favorites, we all know that they do. I think Uncle Pill was the unspoken favorite of at least a few.
30 plus years later, I'm still touched that he and Aunt Doris gave me a gift for my high school graduation and encouraged me about university.
You might think that your mother's uncle was a distant relative, but he was near enough to encourage me.
