James Paul Long's Obituary
James Paul Long, 84, of Barry, TX was born on April 29th, 1937 in Dallas, TX to Ottie & Buelah Long, and passed away on August 2nd, 2021. He married Doris Crawford on September 15th, 1955 in Argyle, TX.
James had many nicknames, Boss, Pill, JP, Pop, and most of all Pappy. He started his self-employment career as a Dairy Worker/Owner, before starting in construction as a Custom Home Builder, followed by being a Farmer which included baling hay and raising cattle. Many men and students learned their work ethics from him. He always did his best and expected no less from his employees. He worked side by side with them and never asked them to do anything he didn’t do. They learned so much from him and most of them have moved on to their own businesses. Students received credit in school for working for him for vocational employment. He loved the Lord and credited him with every blessing in his life. He will be missed by many. He loved and was loved by family and friends.
James was proceeded in death by his parents, Ottie and Buelah Long, brothers, Lamon Long & Ronnie Long, sisters, Wanda Kwast & Pauline Carter, son James “Jim” Long, and great grandson Bradley Williams, JR.
James is survived by his wife, Doris Long, son Lloyd “Rusty” & wife Pam Long of Lewisville, TX; daughter Daphne & husband Ricky Tanner of Carrollton, TX; daughter Sandy & husband Lester Williams of Princeton, TX; sister Phyllis Wilkerson of Sanger, TX; along with 17 grandkids, 16 great grandkids, and numerous nieces & nephews.
A visitation will be held in honor of James’ life on Saturday, August 7th at the Barry Fire Station in Barry, TX, from 10 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX off Greenville Ave at the Memorial Chapel, officiated by Robert Barnett, on Monday August 9th, there will be a short visitation before the service from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM followed by the service at 10:00 AM. Graveside service will be following the service for the immediate family members.
Pallbearers for the service will be Paul Foster, Bryan Edlin, Corey Long, Collin Long, David Long, and Mel Austin.
