James Lynn Lumley's Obituary
James “Jim” Lumley, 84, of Garland, Texas, passed away on December 13, 2025, just shy of his 85th birthday.
Born on December 21, 1940, to the late James T. Lumley and Frances Nadine Morris, Jim was a lifelong resident of the Dallas area. He was a man defined by a sharp wit, a strong work ethic, and a lifelong fascination with how things worked.
Of all his life’s chapters, Jim’s most cherished was his service in the United States Army. As a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, he carried the pride of a paratrooper throughout his life. He often recounted fond memories of his time stationed at Fort Bragg and his deployment in Germany, keeping the brotherhood and discipline of those years close to his heart.
Jim possessed a "tinkerer’s soul." He was never truly finished with a project, whether he was building intricate model cars, piloting RC airplanes, or diving into the logic of computer programming. His hands were rarely still; he found great joy in refurbishing boats and bringing life back to old machinery. This mechanical aptitude led him to a successful career in the HVAC industry, where he eventually founded his own air conditioning company, serving the DFW Metroplex for many years before his retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Julia Lumley, who was his constant companion. He leaves behind his children: James Lumley Jr. (Sandy), Jennifer Lumley Odell (Brian), Stephanie Lumley (Robert), Terri Lumley Loftin (James), Denise Lumley Smith (Dave), and Michele Lumley Van De Hey (Jim). He was a grandfather to seven amazing grandchildren.
A private family interment with military honors will take place at the DFW National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest among his fellow veterans.
